It's time to start the voting for the 2015 New Blood Award People's Choice!This year we didn't have as many contestants as last year, bummer but hey we do have 3!Here's how it works, below I'll list the entrants and show a photo of their ride, in the comments at the bottom of the page you simply comment the name of your choice for the People's Choice winner. It was just a rusted body with no frame. The touring portion of the body was long gone with just the back door hinges indicating what it once was. Originally the idea was to bring the car back as a roadster pickup. But we wanted to build an iconic vehicle with character and to demonstrate what I can do as a sheet metal fabricator. I was influenced by not only custom builders from the 50’s-60’s, but also the radical concept cars of the period. I hand formed the rest of the body from flat 18-gauge sheet metal. The enclosed trunk will give us plenty of room on long road trips.  I manufactured the tailgate with hidden hinges to mimic a station wagon swing open tailgate. The main body and trunk seam are leaded as well as the fins and other high-stress areas. The fabricated grill features a perforated aluminum insert.I found two 1927 Ford Model T frames, which I split and boxed together.  The bone yard also yielded a ’31 Ford front axle and trail arms and ’36 rear trail arms. A 1951 Kaiser Deluxe donated a Dana 41 rear end, which I rebuilt, and 15-inch rims. I used quarter elliptical springs on each corner with a high-boy raked stance completed by bias ply whitewall bigs and littles. I found a mildly built ’57-’66 Chevy 283 V8  with ’62-’65 power pack 327 heads, which I freshened with new rings and gaskets.  The parts pickup also gave up a Munci SM420 4-speed transmission.We thought about the loud metal flake creations of the ‘60s show cars but it seemed to be too over the top.  Instead we decided on a Winfield fade with ‘60s Cadillac colors. We went with a fuchsia and silver sparkle vinyl interior to add a bit of garishness to represent the era. We had some issues with powder coat on the frame which has delayed us getting finished pictures but we will be in Salina with a driving, painted traditional show rod._20150413_145439-1
