For the 3rd year in a row I ventured up to Denver for the Rocky Mountain Auto Show held on Thanksgiving weekend in the Denver Convention Center right in downtown Denver. Again the show was full of amazing vehicles of all types from the 2015 Ridler Award winning “Imposter” built by Chip Foose to exotics, traditional rods, kustoms, muscle cars, and everything else you could imagine.

Dean Mircos’ 1930 Model A Hot Rod

It’s rather fitting that I’m posting this article today. If you’re reading this on the day it comes out I’m on the way to the 2015 Hot Rod Hill Climb right now, these photos were shot after the 2014 Hot Rod Hill Climb just down the road about a mile.

2014 Rocky Mountain Auto Show Pt. 2

The Rocky Mountain Auto Show itself is one of the better indoor shows that I attend. Lots of great traditional rods and a few kustoms, plus a contingent of Salt Flats cars, some modern super car stuff and a bunch of great restored classics.

2014 Rocky Mountain Auto Show Pt. 1

Thanksgiving weekend each year is the Creme De La Chrome, Rocky Mountain Auto Show at the Denver Convention Center. This was my 2nd trip up to the event. This time I decided against the leave at 7am drive 12 hours roundtrip and shoot a show in between in a single day routine. Instead I went up Friday to Fort Collins, CO to hang out with some friends from there. I went to Newstalgia Custom Paint for a shop visit and then we had some great food.

The T-33 replica making it’s first pass up Leavenworth Mountain in the 2014 Hot Rod Hill Climb.

I was absolutely floored by the almost mythically rare speed parts that were not only there, but on cars that were being flung up the mountain. Like the best museum ever except the parts are sitting there to be dusted, they were on the cars and being used. I just can’t get over all that I saw at the Hot Rod Hill Climb. Here are the photos from my perch on the side of the mountain.

2014 Hot Rod Hill Climb Part 2

Saturday morning of the Hot Rod Hill Climb I skipped breakfast at the hotel to get back downtown as soon as possible and start shooting photos. The sun was up but behind the mountains so the photos were fairly low light at first. The pancake feed had a huge line of people, it didn’t take long for the show part of the event to be overflowing with cars, and the crowd was overwhelming.

2014 Hot Rod Hill Climb Part 1

For exactly 1 year I’ve been regretting missing the 2013 Hot Rod Hill Climb. I made the choice to not make the 15 hour round trip and from the moment that photos started being posted online, I was full of regret. 2014 was my chance to make good and get myself there. I had no idea what I was in for.

There is a post coming that is chock full of vintage hot rods that were at the Hot Rod Hill Climb so stay tuned, to make sure you don’t miss it, subscribe by entering your email address in the top right hand corner of this page. Event Coverage: Rocky Mountain Auto Show Pt. 1

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4

For a couple of years I’ve been hearing about the Rock Mountain Auto Show in Denver, CO over Thanksgiving weekend, 2013 was finally the time to make it up and check the show out. One of the voices telling me of the show was my friend photographer Dan Greenberg, and once I saw that my friends from the Hot Rod Hill Climb were going to do a display featuring a bunch of the cars that ran the hill climb this year, I was all in.

Waking up at 5:30 am I rolled out for the 6 hour drive west on I-70 for the Colorado Convention Center on the south west side of Denver’s downtown. As soon as I arrived I ran into a bunch of friends from across the midwest, including Dan who had a lens for me to experiment with. I’ve been considering buying a certain lens and he had an older version of it and was kind enough to let me test his out. Thanks Dan! Here’s the first batch of photos from the event, click on any of them to go to the entire gallery. This show had a lot of quality cars that aren’t of the traditional or old school flavor but they were new to me and hopefully new to you so I’m including them in the coverage.

Thanks again to my buddy Dan Greenberg, please go check out his photography on his pbase page here!  Buy some of his fine art prints while you’re there!
