I always enjoy my trips over to check out the Herington Car Show and Drags in Herington, KS. It’s a great small town show that has the added bonus of Run What Ya Brung Drags that brings out a HUGE crowd.

Since I was already down in Arkansas City to have Jeff Myers’ Premier Body & Paint fix up my daily driver so that I can sell it, and I was driving by anyways I just had to stop by and see the Mulvane Marauders at their 2018 Showdown In The Valley held at the Kansas Star Casino Arena on April 21st. Ā The show moved to the Kansas Star a few years ago and now has a feature that was great for the rainy weather of the day, an indoor spot for about 100 rides!

This episode Royboy travels to Koolsville to talk with Jeff Myers about the 1941 Ford kustom that he built for the late Roy Putnam. We also talk about the 1957 Ford that he built for Roy.

By Saturday the weather had turned from 86degrees to 46, it was a bit chilly especially with the wind but if the pinup girls could walk around in it, so could I. The crazy huge turnout that had been at the event on Friday was down quite a bit due to the weather but most of the folks that traveled from across the country were still ready to hang out, check out some cars, hear some great music and enjoy each other’s company.

When I finally got into the show on Friday it wasn’t long before everyone in the show was getting sweaty, it was kinda warm compared to what Kansas had been only 24 hours before but since Saturday was not looking too good temp wise we all just kind of dealt with it. I’ve never seen so many cars at this show on a Friday, it was crazy!
Around 2pm I got a text from Ryno that the minibike races were starting so I went over to check them out with a pinup friend of mine and some friends from Colorado. That’s one of my favorite parts of events like this, there were friends to hang with from across the country and planet!

We had a great time out at the Meatheads BBQ and then hanging out with the Okie Sleds in Taylor. Later that night we headed down to Giddy Ups to hang out and listen to some live music. Friday morning I headed to the show and waited in line for an hour to get in. The amount of people trying to get into the event was crazy, the most I’ve ever seen on a Friday at the Lonestar Round Up.

The 2018 Lonestar Round Up trip started the way that all of my annual pilgrimages to Austin have started. Ill prepared and a few minutes late. After work at 6pm I headed off from my home in central Kansas and met up with a buddy along the interstate about 30 miles down the road. We pushed through and got to the south side of Fort Worth around 1:30 am and called it a night.
The next morning he was calling my room far too early and shortly after we were headed south again. Destination, Beyersville, TX for the Meatheads BBQ pre-party at Noon on Thursday.
Here are some photos from that event, more coverage of the weekend all week long on the site, make sure to subscribe if you haven’t already so you will get the updates in your email in box.

Here’s the fifth and final post of the Southwest Missouri Hot Rod Hundred! Thanks to the CrossMembers CC for allowing me to cover the event and for all of the hard work it takes to put these on.

After catching some shots about two miles from the start point I hopped in my daily driver and got on the interstate and leap frogged around the group to station myself at the Spencer Route 66 station. My buddy Quentin Brown was already there so I moved down to this old bridge on the route just up the road. The rain was falling gently when I got perched precariously on the side of the bridge but it wasn’t enough to keep me from shooting an image of every single car that was on the run.

After the driver’s meeting I rushed out and found a spot on the route to take photos of some of the cars passing by. I always love the action shots! So here they are and then some from the Spencer bridge on Rt 66!

My plan was to take my Galaxie for it’s third trip to be a part of the SWMO Hot Rod Hundred, but after not touching the car for the last couple of months while I worked on the book, the battery was DEAD. Even my jump start battery couldn’t get the car started. So I hopped in the daily driver and made my way down to Joplin, finally getting a room around 10:30. Ā I opened my laptop and worked on the book until about 12:30am, 6am would come all too soon.
More of the story tomorrow.

One of the most common things that I hear is that we need more events that are not car shows, luckily we have the CrossMembers CC and they put on the Hot Rod Hundred. I’ve been attending the HRH events for a few years and they are all awesome! The SW Missouri HRH happens each year on the Saturday of Easter weekend and is a great excuse to gather up a bunch of hot rod family and go for a run on some cool roads and finish up eating some great BBQ.
