48 Cars In 48 States : Pre-Trip #004 Irene The Camper Makes Her First Trip!

APC; 0431; hdr

I’m a bit tardy on this update on the camper, but only because I was so busy working on it that I couldn’t take the time to sit and write this up! Since the last update I’ve gotten the camper on the road again and made my first road trip with it. 1400 miles rolled under her since leaving the garage a couple of weeks ago and there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Chrome Pipes And Pinstripes 151 Hot Rod Hundred With Guest Mickey Bryan

This week Royboy talks with Mickey Bryan of the Stray Kat 500 and Starliner shows about the Hot Rod Hundred and about the upcoming Stray Kat 500 show, then after that discussion… Royboy gets a little ranty.

2017 SWMO Hot Rod Hundred Coverage Pt. 4

At the end of the incredibly beautiful route we gathered up in a park in Crane, MO for some BBQ and some good times. I had a blast again on this run as I do each time. It’s a great way to spend a few hours with the rod and kustom family.

Again a huge thank you goes out to the members of the CrossMembers CC for putting on this great event!

It was about 775 miles round trip for the Galaxie this week, I really appreciate all of the folks that I get to hang out with, you folks are what this is all about.

This week’s coverage is brought to you by the Hot Rod Hundred. I’ve attended a few of these events in a couple of locations and they are a blast! I highly recommend that you join the fun at one of these events!

2017 SWMO Hot Rod Hundred Coverage Pt. 3

About half way through the SWMO Hot Rod Hundred we stopped in Mt. Vernon, MO at Hot Shoe Hot Rods. Look in the 2nd half of this post to see a couple of images from that stop. Thanks to Hot Shoe for the donuts and waters, some much needed refreshments on the run!

2017 SWMO Hot Rod Hundred Coverage Pt. 2

Unfortunately Bret, seen here leading in his 40 Ford, had some issues a couple of miles into the run so he had to limp it back home and meet us at the end. He wasn’t the only casualty of the run this year either, Corey had over heating issues just after leaving the starting point and another vehicle lost a rear wheel, but the wheel perfectly timed it’s departure and the truck was able to make it safely off of the road. Later in the run they were back with us again so hopefully no major damage was done.

2017 SWMO Hot Rod Hundred Coverage Pt. 1

I’ve attended the Southwest Missouri Hot Rod Hundred three times so far, and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. By the official count there were 178 vehicles on the run this year, of course my main focus will always be the hot rods and kustoms in any event that I go to, but you’ll see a few more cars in this coverage as well.

The CrossMembers CC puts on the Hot Rod Hundred events across the country and I can only say a HUGE Thank You! to them for the efforts. Too many times we find ourselves sitting at car shows watching each other’s cars sitting at car shows. The Hot Rod Hundred is a bit different. Everyone gathers up at a rally point, follows a set route of about 100 miles and we have a stop or two along the way, at the end we go to a park for a short car show/hangout with some BBQ. It’s a good good time.

Here it is, the final day of coverage of the 2017 Lonestar Round Up! 2017 Lonestar Round Up Coverage Pt 5

2017; Lonestar; Round; Saturday; 078

I spent so much time Saturday out taking photos that I missed most of the bands, the cacklefests and the minibike races, but I saw a ton of cars and talked with hundred or so friends. At somewhere around 3pm I looked out to the incoming street and saw that there were cars still showing up. I don’t know where they parked because there wasn’t much room left.

After Saturday’s show festivities some friends and I headed out to Murpho’s for their party. We got there early and enjoyed BBQ, free Vodka and watched the place fill to what I’m sure was more than capacity. A great band rocked the shop and folks enjoyed the booze and party until far after I had to wimp out and head back to the camper.

2017 Lonestar Round Up Coverage Pt 4

2017; Lonestar; Round; Saturday; 006

The 16th Annual Lonestar Round Up was a blast… once I got past my blues on Friday. The show Saturday was huge, I mean frigging huge. I’ve never seen that many cars at the show, both in the Feature area and in the general area. The music was amazing as always as well.

2017 Lonestar Round Up Pt 3

Today I’ll show you some more from the Feature Car area of the Lonestar Round Up. I’ve been attending this show for years and Friday has become my favorite day of the show. There is less of a crowd and most of the best cars are already there. Enjoy!

2017 Lonestar Round Up Coverage Pt 2

2017; Lonestar; Round; Friday; 038

On Friday I showed you what I saw at the Meatheads CC BBQ and today I show you the start of the coverage from the event itself. One of the first cars that I see as I pull into the feature car area of the show is Ryno’s “Golden Goddess” Cadillac, after watching the build come together it was great to see the car in person. Congrats on another great car my friend.

The feature car area to me is what the Lonestar Round Up started as. The rest of the show you’ll see cars that wouldn’t have made the original versions of the show as they’ve been described to me, but the feature car area is made up of hot rods and customs selected from the pre-registered cars. That isn’t to say that every cool hot rod and custom in the show is in the feature car area, but the show does a great job of finding some of the best cars in the country that have pre-registered and selecting them for this area. The first couple of days of coverage will be from the feature car area of the show, enjoy!

2017 Meat Heads CC BBQ

2017; lonestar; Round; 001; LSRU; lonestar round up; round up; texas

This is a first, I’m writing this from the bunk in the camper out in the campground area of the Lonestar Round Up. After leaving Wednesday around 1pm I met up with Dennis Saum from Nebraska and then Steve from McPherson and we headed south. The 30 mph tail wind sure helped the ol Galaxie and camper down the road! I need to change the rear gear from the 2.75 back to the 3.50 gears, the car is just working too hard to motivate the extra weight, much like me climbing a hill.

Thursday around 11 am we arrived at the Meatheads CC BBQ out in Beyersville, TX. Great food, beer, friends and cars, what’s not to like? Enjoy the photos.

Upcoming Event : Custom Car Revival

custom; custom car revival; indianapolis

A few years ago Kevin Anderson and Bob Davis started the Custom Car Revival in Indianapolis, IN. What they wanted was a custom only event to celebrate the Westergard to Watson era of custom cars, what they got was so much more. The show has turned into 200 incredible customs and their owners, and a weekend of hanging out with some great people.

I first attended the show in 2014, as soon as we rolled in late Thursday afternoon I was blown away by the cars in the parking lot of the host hotel. Thursday evening there’s food and hanging out in the parking lot. Friday is a day of exploring Indy, Anderson has said that they didn’t want a show where folks just sat behind their cars for 2 days and some tours of the great city of Indianapolis seemed a great way to spend Friday.
